Ahlam

Opening Dance at Ahlam ('Dreams')
AHLAM is an exciting evening of Middle Eastern Dance and storytelling that enters the dark, beautiful and bawdy world of the Great Goddess. Using dance from Egypt and North Africa - with a sprinkling of Celtic, Indian and Maori dance it is a magical journey to discover the many faces of the world's Goddesses, including: Gaia the earth mother who wields a staff with which she creates and sustains all life, Bast the Egyptian Goddess of playfulness & pleasure, the dark destroyer Kali who drinks the blood of demons, Inanna who ventures to the underworld to meet her shadow self, fiery Brighid the muse and inspiration for the ancient Celts, Yemaya who symbolises the ever flowing nature of water & life and Baubo the untamed Greek Goddess who relishes smutty jokes.
